Question Can you eventually LOSE access to quests? =(

Aside from the quests in Pre-Searing Ascalon that you could potentially miss out on if you move to Post-Searing prematurely, I was wondering if there is any other way you could accidentally lose the ability to play certain quests.

I know that in some cases, you 'unlock' specific quests by completing other quests. But, is it possible to actually LOSE access to a quest by completing another quest?

For example ... if I complete the entire Prophecies campaign, and I return to old Ascalon (the first explorable area in Post), will I be able to complete every single quest that I left behind, or is there a chance some of them will be 'forfeited' because I didn't click on the proper NPC at a specific time in the campaign's story?

I have looked everywhere for an answer to this question.

If anyone can offer any info here, I would appreciate it greatly.

I'm not entirely certain on every quest. There may be some like that, but as I said I'm unaware of them.

In my own experience though, I had some quests I got early on with my Proph char and just recently went back and finished them after beating the game and the other campaigns (trying to clean up my full quest log. ) with no problem.

I don't think you can lose a quest in Prophecies. Certain quests in Old Ascalon and Northern Shiverpeaks are profession specific, but you can even go back and pick those up once you've Ascended and unlocked all the core professions.

The only place I know where doing one quest can exclude another is in Nightfall. For example, if you choose Margrid instead of Master of Whispers, you won't ever be able to do the quest "To Kill a Demon" (though you will get the quest "Gain Master of Whispers" in its place when you reach the endgame).

While we're on this topic ...

... If an explorable area NPC has an available quest, can you also click on that NPC to accept the quest while in hard mode? Or do you have to enter an explorable area in normal mode only to accept quests?

I'm not certain if hard mode is intended specifically for vanquishing, or if it's an exact replica (albeit harder, obviously) of normal mode.

Thanks for the responses. =)

Its a replica area with the same enemies with higher levels, better AI (apparently) and the enemies also have faster movement, attacks and casting.

There are only a few quests you can't go back and get, these are the hero quests from Nightfall (You can follow 1 out of 2 heroes quest lines), and the Pre-Searing quests

you can p/u any quest in HM that you would be able to p/u in NM. Be aware of changes in the environment after picking up certain quests. Could make things more difficult while out there in HM.

You can lose cross-campaign quests, but that's not a big deal. For example, if you have all campaigns and EOTN, then if you pick up the Prophecies -> EOTN quest and finish it, then the Cantha -> EOTN and Elona -> EOTN quests will disappear. Same with Prophecies -> Cantha and Elona -> Cantha, etc.

Also, non-Prophecies characters won't be able to access most of the quests before Lion's Arch, only the missions, this applies to non-native characters in other continents as well, with most of the "starting area" quests unaccessable. But I guess that doesn't count as "losing" the quests as you were never able to do them with characters from other continents.

Nightfall has some alternate quests such as Destroy the Ungrateful Slaves/Refuse the King.

There's also some newb isle quests in Factions that are unattainable after Zen Dijiun, involving the bosses seen during the mission.

However, if these are attained pre-Zen Dijiun, then they're automatically completed.

This.

Also, these will all have exactly the same reward.

I beat all the campaigns then went back to Ascalon, all the quests were still there. If you want you can do as I do and pick up every single quest you see then go back and do them as you see fit. (The rewards are great!)

I do know from experience that certain quest can be lost if you destroy specific quest items in your inventory. This happens when you get the quest item from a npc and then the quest updates with the consequence that the npc that gave the quest item won't re-appear anymore.

Not all quest items work like this though, since not all quest update after getting the item, they only update when you hand in the item at the hand in npc.
